The Global Health Innovative Technology (GHIT) Fund is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Akihiko Saitoh as a new member of the organization’s Selection Committee (SC). The SC is responsible for evaluating investment proposals and progress reports from development partners and making investment recommendations to the Board of Directors.

Dr. Saitoh, a Professor and Chairman of Pediatrics at Niigata University Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, relocated to the United States in 1995 where he completed clinical training in pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases in California. He subsequently served as an attending physician at a U.S. university. Since 2011, he has held his current position and was appointed Vice Dean of Niigata University School of Medicine in 2020.

In addition, he has made significant contributions to the establishment of the pediatric infectious disease specialist certification system, serving as a board member of the Japanese Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Chair of the Education Committee, and Vice Chair of the Specialist Certification Review Committee. His commitment also includes epidemiologic research on pediatric infectious diseases in Asian countries such as Myanmar and Vietnam.

Dr. Saitoh’s extensive expertise and deep knowledge are expected to make significant contributions to advancing GHIT Fund’s projects.
