GHIT - Showcasing Partnership Behind Breakthrough Pediatric Treatment for Preschoolers with Schistosomiasis
In alignment with the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), GHIT proudly presents a new video featuring researchers and innovators sharing firsthand insights into the groundbreaking partnership that delivered a new treatment option specifically designed for preschool-aged children (3 months to six years) with schistosomiasis. This neglected tropical disease affects 250 million people globally, with an estimated 50 million young children who previously lacked a suitable treatment option.
The video captures reflections from partners across the Pediatric Praziquantel Consortium and GHIT's leadership on how the collaborative R&D journey worked and what it means to them, chronicling 12 years of commitment spanning Japan, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, UK, Brazil, and Africa. Following comprehensive African-based clinical development program, funding has been supporting rollout of the new treatment in Côte d'Ivoire, Uganda, and Kenya. Expansion is also planned for Senegal and Tanzania.
Watch to learn how innovation, equity, and partnership can address complex public health challenges, creating a scalable blueprint for other neglected tropical disease treatments while advancing the 2030 elimination goal.
