January 30 marks World Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) Day, an international awareness day for NTDs recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO). In observance of this day, the World NTD Day Japan Preparatory Committee will host an online event titled “World NTD Day 2026 Webinar” on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 17:00 to 19:00 (JST).

Organized by the World NTD Day Japan Preparatory Committee (planned and managed by NTDs Youth Organization, with the GHIT Fund as one of its member organizations), the webinar aims to deepen the understanding of NTDs and inspire collective actions toward their elimination. During the event, the Award Ceremony of the Third Neglected Tropical Disease Contest, for which the GHIT Fund serves as a judge member, will also take place. In addition, GHIT Fund CEO Dr. Osamu Kunii will deliver an opening message to mark this special day.

Program Overview

This year’s webinar will focus on the theme “Next Generation NTDs: The Transformative Power of AI and Technology.” It will explore how innovation and emerging technologies are reshaping the landscape of infectious disease control and global health.

Program Highlights:

■Program 1: Special Messages for World NTD Day
Including remarks by Dr. Osamu Kunii, CEO, GHIT Fund (and others).

■Program 2: Award Ceremony of the Third Neglected Tropical Disease Contest
Recognition of winners and presentation of the top creative works aimed at raising awareness of NTDs.

■Program 3: Special Session – “Next Generation NTDs: The Transformative Power of AI and Technology”
Featured speakers include Ms. Ayako Uehara (SORA Technology Co., Ltd.), and Mr. Shintaro Nakayama (OUI Inc.). Together, they will discuss innovative applications of AI and digital technology in health and explore future possibilities. A panel discussion will follow the presentations.
