Event Report: Closing the Global Health Divide Through Partnership Driven Innovation
On November 11, 2014, the Global Health Innovative Technology (GHIT) Fund and the Embassy of Japan convened a panel of leading global health experts in London to collectively call for greater cross-border and cross-sector collaboration to ensure global preparedness for the inevitable resurgence of infectious diseases, including TB, Malaria, HIV/AIDS and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).
Discussions lay the framework for the need for partnerships in global health and explored the challenges associated with developing public health strategies and researching infectious diseases.
Mr. Keiichi Hayashi, Ambassador of Japan to the United Kingdom, opened the meeting. Speakers included GHIT Fund leaders such as Dr. Peter Piot, Dr. Eiji Hinoshita, Dr. BT Slingsby, and Dr. Kiyoshi Kurokawa, as well as leading scholars from leading British research institutions such as the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Expert panellists also hailed from the product development partnership Medicines from Malaria Venture, the Japanese pharmaceutical company Eisai Co., Ltd.
