The GHIT Fund hosted several side events, in addition to a booth exhibition at the UHC Forum 2017 in Tokyo, which was co-organized by the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the World Bank, the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), UHC 2030, and the International Cooperation Organization (JICA).

Speeches by Japanese government officials at GHIT’s side events emphasized the importance of Japanese innovation for the promotion of UHC in low and middle income countries, accelerating global health R&D through GHIT, access and delivery in partnerships with international organizations, and expectation’s for GHIT’s second five-year phase of operations (GHIT 2.0). Government speakers included Mr. Takashi Miyahara (Assistant Deputy Director, International Bureau, Ministry of Finance), Mr. Tamaki Tsukada (Deputy Director-General (Ambassador), International Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and Dr. Yasuyuki Sahara (Councillor, Minister’s Secretariat, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare).

International organizations such as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), and Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) co-hosted side events with GHIT, sharing the common vision of strengthening of global partnership for global health R&D, access, and delivery.

During the UHC Forum 2017, the "UHC Tokyo Declaration" was adopted. The Declaration specifically includes expectations for the GHIT Fund to contribute to UHC through innovation. ("UHC Tokyo Declaration" English / Japanese: World Bank website)

During the World Bank-organized "Innovation Showcase" on December 14th, Dr. Jim Yong Kim, President of World Bank, together with Dr. Tedros Adanaom, Director General of WHO, visited GHIT’s exhibition booth, where they discussed GHIT’s business model and achievements to date.
