Announcing New Selection Committee Members

The GHIT Fund today announced that Professor Ken J. Ishii, Professor at the Institute of Medical Science, the University of Tokyo (as of Jan, 2019) and Director of Center for Vaccine and Adjuvant Research, National Institute of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition, and Professor Naoto Uemura, Professor at Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Oita University Faculty of Medicine, have been appointed as new members of GHIT’s Selection Committee,  which evaluates investment proposals and reports from development partners and makes investment recommendations to the Board of Directors.


"I am honored to be a member of this global public-private partnership's Selection Committee. I am also pleased that I can contribute to promoting product development, along with other committee members who are active on the front lines of R&D both in Japan and overseas." said Prof. Ishii.


Prof. Uemura said, "It is my great pleasure to utilize the clinical development expertise that I have cultivated until now towards development of new medicines for neglected diseases. I am looking forward to making contributions to driving product development for Japanese innovations."


"I am delighted to welcome these professionals to the Selection Committee, both of whom have been dedicated to clinical research for decades. Their participation will further enhance the quality of our stringent evaluation process to select innovative products to solve global health challenges in the future.” said Prof. Kita Kiyoshi, Co-Chair of GHIT’s Selection Committee.


Dr. Dennis Schmutz, Co-Chair of GHIT’s Selection Committee, added, "I am very excited about the addition of two highly experienced members with product development expertise as we continue to broaden the scope of expertise on the GHIT Selection Committee.  We are looking forward to working with them soon.”


Profs. Ishii and Uemura will join the next scheduled Selection Committee deliberations.
