Nikkei Asian Review: Sharing Japan's vision for global health

Dr. Mandeep Dhaliwal, Director of the HIV, Health and Development Group at the Bureau of Policy and Program Support in the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and Dr. BT Slingsby, CEO of the GHIT Fund, published an op-ed entitled “Sharing Japan's vision for global health” in the September 10, 2016 Nikkei Asian Review.  Dr. Dhaliwal and Dr. Slingsby emphasized the importance of both further investment in product development and the reinforcement of access and delivery in order to achieve the third Sustainable Development Goal, which targets ending the epidemics of tuberculosis, malaria, and neglected tropical diseases by 2030. Product development catalyzed by the GHIT Fund, together with UNDP’s and others’ capacity building in access and delivery create a synergistic effect. This effect enables low- and middle-income countries to address bottlenecks within their health systems. Such approaches contribute to both health system strengthening and the promotion of universal health coverage.
